Can I reach you NOW?

Can I reach you NOW?

It is nearly impossible to go anywhere now days without hearing or seeing someone on a smartphone. The need to be connected is ever-present.  The strange thing is smartphones seem to be used today for everything but talking.  Today’s smartphone users are texting, playing games, checking the weather, sports scores, news, email and researching and purchasing products, including education, and increasingly using social media.  For most users, smartphones have become indispensable.

Listen to a smartphone ring at a mall and watch all the shoppers grab for their own phone.  This new stage of the information age is offering a channel for leveraging data, communication, and content, mobility offers colleges and universities an opportunity to connect like never before.

The ability for users to browse anywhere at any time has become a technological phenomenon, and higher education needs to be taking full advantage of that phenomena.

  •          91% of Americans have mobile devices
  •          Over 90% of consumers have a choice of 4 or more mobile providers
  •          More than 87% of devices are web and SMS capable
  •          More than 94% are data-capable

So, as you can see it doesn’t matter who or where you are these devices are changing the way we should be recruiting and retaining students.

Given the age of anytime, anywhere access, potential students expect to be about to whip out their smartphones and within a click or two find a college or university’s phone number, event calendar, etc. And they don’t want to zoom in or out to read the information, or see a broken Flash icon.  Is your college developing or implementing a mobile website and application? With the right tools and strategy you can have a successful mobile presence that will yield real results.
